This session is designed to focus on individual defending. An introduction to defending concepts, especially the 1v1 open-field encounter, should form a basis of the session. Body orientation, movements to close attackers and deny space, use of the athletic stance, weight bearing, and decleration should integrate into the activities. In the shielding activity, encourage the defender to quick move to cut off the attacker and apply pressure. In the 2v1, look for the defender to take away the teammate as an option to shut down the player on the ball. The narrow 4v4 game provides options for defenders to use the touch lines as "2nd defenders".
